Point Molate Photos, Wildflowers.
What if you held a little CNPS (California Native Plant Society) field trip and dozens of cars arrived bringing a hundred trippers? That happened to East Bay Regional Park District biologist Dave Amme and California Native Plant Society biologist Lech Naumovich on the 5/16/10 field trip to rare virgin coastal grassland at Point Molate, Contra Costa Co. There was such a profusion of well-versed ecological types in the crowd that it could split up and still have an expert for every group. If you Google "Point Molate +images" the overriding theme that turns up is one of architectural decrepitude and abandonment. The truth is that the vast majority of the area is a relatively untouched remnant of native SF Bay shore habitat that is desperately in need of preservation. I hope these few photos can convey a taste of the actual place, something that seems to have been missed in all the headlines of intrigues among the Richmond City Council, Oil, Chevron, developers, and big-time Indian gambling casinos. --Bob SikoraRead More
